"Ustaz, is he Diki?" asked Mr. Siregar, our director, as I entered the restaurant, the venue for our gathering's gala dinner in that evening. "Yes Pak". I could answer no more because he seemed surprised by something else. "Wow, he is tall now ...even taller than his dad. He was so small when I saw him in our 2007 gathering. Congrats boy!" said him again when my son greeted him. I still remember we shared the same house in Villa Renata, in our directorate family gathering in 2007 whose theme was Wisata Rohani DPbS. It was 4 years a go and my son was still in 5th grade. Now he is in his 3rd year of secondary school and 170 cm height, the height I've never known from whom he derives!

Article about gathering
Salam.
Dear EC members.
As our office family gathering is just one day to go, I have an idea, how if everyone write something about it aftermath? You don't need to write the whole program, of course. Just the most interesting (or funniest) one for you. Not too long article, I guess. Just some paragraphs. It is only to keep our English mood intact.
Thank you and have a nice day
See you in the Gathering.

OMG, kebaya?
Can not imagine how difficult for me to ride a motorcycle wearing a kebaya and kain, go to work at 6 a.m or 7 a.m tomorrow and will have a "nationalist sun-burning period-with my kebaya" on my way, in my day, yup, mother's day.
Actually, it will be my very first time celebrating mother's day when I am a truly mother, for my daughter Ayra. Last year, on 22nd of December 2010, I knew that I'm pregnant, but still kept it as my own secret. Why? Because it was my unique-unspeakable-feeling to realize that I'm pregnant in my three-and-a-half years waiting a baby. At that moment, I was afraid to tell everybody about my pregnancy, afraid to fail, afraid to anything that could happen to me, to my baby.

Mother Day....Kebaya Day?
Through email and public sound system, our lovely Public Relation Unit (DPSHM) announces that tomorrow 22nd December 2011 there will be a celebration of mother's day and every lady employee is required (means obliged?) to use our traditional dress kebaya. Whew! As long as I remember, this is the first time our office issue such a requirement on mother day. If it is Kartini day (commemoration of our heroine who struggled for woman emancipation) then everyone already understand. But using kebaya in mother's day? (Little Princess replies suddenly to my gtalk cheer expression with a single word "rempong deh...")

Tape-Uli (not Tart or Martabak) for My Birthday
It is a traditional food made of a special rice called "ketan" (Malay "pulut"). To make "tape" people should cook the rice half-baked firstly with water and mix them with certain ingredients. Then the cooked rice should be put for fermentation . (It is the fermentation that generates a little bit alcohol which leads to long controversies among the people, as to whether the "tape" is unlawful for being similar to liquor for its alcohol contain.
"Uli" on the oter hand is the same rice but fully cooked. Then after that they are mashed using stick from wood so it will be ready when already soft (also sticky). People usually eat "tape" with "uli" especially in certain festivities such as Idul Fitri. They are popular among the Malay communities. Nowadays the food is also introduced in certain function/parties like wedding ceremonies and considered as a dessert/cake for its sweet taste.

Wish You Score High, Gembul
I am in waiting room Soetta airport when I wrote this message with email application in my blackberry phone. In the middle of our hectic day, we know, in the end weeks of December, I hope you do not forget that one of our member, Ms. Lind4 -coded Dul.Gembul in her gtalk- will have TOEFL test by the end of this week.
With so much work at hand and nervous feeling always on her side, I hope she can solve TOEFL questions easily and smoothly.
We wish you score high, Gembul. May Allah ease you in every step you take.
*Another pray: wish you meet someone in the Test, who will become future husband* (long ameeeeen....)

Clothesline… The Conflict’s Trigger…

If I were asked “What is the most thing that could lead into a conflict among residents of a boarding house?” I would answer… “Clothesline!”
Why? Because when I was a university student and lived in one of the student boarding house in Depok, scrambling the clothesline is our daily routine…
There were nearly 30 people who lived in the dorm, but there were only 3 pieces clotheslines provided. Regarding to (Because of ) the limitation, my friend, Ayu and I agreed to share to buy a clothesline which would be used by us interchangeably (by turn ) (it was mean that we must had different schedule of laundry day). What Ayu and I had done, followed by a few friends of us. Nevertheless, most of residents still had expectation to use the existing clotheslines or even borrow the clothesline which we had bought before.

Walid....are you going again?
I just returned from mosque after completing my Fajr praying when I saw my youngest daughter sitting on the prayer mat. She was still using her mini mukena when I came, a sign that she just completed her Fajar prayer too. She was looking at me curiously as I prepared myself for another trip. "Walid, this is Sunday. Are you going to work too?" she asked. "Well....yes honey" I answer reluctantly. "Then...I have to cycle alone.." she said. Suddenly I felt a disappointment in her voice. I kissed her cheek and said "Next week, Insha Allah we will be cycling again, together with A-a (our call name for my son, her elder brother)....". She replied my kiss with a very big hug and said " Don't forget to buy gifts for me, okay..?" (I smiled, cause her last sentence reminded me to my buddies in office...). A grain of tears dropped from my eyes, unconsciously. "Sure my princess, I will..."

Bring your flash disk, not your laptop
This was a little accident that happened to me and ms ordinary woman last friday..our first time experience meeting with Deputy Governor :)
A couple days ago we were told that our team, or our boss actually, was appointed to present our audit findings in front of one of our Deputy Governor, Mr HA, but we weren't told the exact time. Then last Friday morning, Mr AST told us that the meeting will be held on the afternoon. Ms ordinary woman was asked to prepare the presentation material while she also babysitted her son in office (actually he's not a baby anymore..heheh), and I was busy to prepare our business trip plan to Jambi and Pekanbaru next week. We were in a hectic situation and I heard everybody talked...

[EnglishClub_DIBBI] Club Updates
@ Pattiserie this afternoon, Friday 09-12-2011, 01.00 pm.
There was supposed to be a club meeting (I called it coffee break) right now, right here. However, everyone seemed busy with their work. I was waiting for members who were invited for the meeting. I changed my gtalk status in my BB to “@ Pattiseries, waiting for members...”. After few minutes, after contacting me thru mobile messages, two of them came up. Ms. Wirdie and Ms. Lind4 walked in, and apologized for their late.
Google Groups Invitation: EnglishClub_DIBBI

Welcome Nilaniels
Dear pals and gals,
A new member has been added to this blog -hence- club. She is from my floor, to whom I call them "mafia 21", who many of them are "emak-emak". But she is not emak-emak of course. She is still fresh like you, especially her motivation in joining English club. Hope she can join the battle to win DSDM heart, study abroad. Amiin
She is whom Ms. Ordinary Woman call her Nil-nil in her story Don't Laugh On (at) Your Friends Mistakes. But actually she is nilaniels@gmail.com
Welcome to our world, Ms. Nilaniels. I hope you can enjoy it.
Cheers

Can't hold on missing you
Morning @ Bukittinggi.
It's quite breeze here. The sun seems never want to show up. I just sit by hotel room canopy, enjoying my hot coffee (this is me second cup in fact...sigh). My laptop is still on, with screen showing my office work. This damned boring-but become deadline-paper has been taking lot of my time these days. Lazy is on the mood...
Beautiful scenery out from my room looks uninteresting. Bukittinggi, as they said, full cute looking, but I am unmoved to do even a step. What's up Mr. C?

Don't Laugh On (at) Your Friend's Mistake...
Well, because Ms. Weirdie had blew up “the strong enough” accident in her last post. I try to write this real story for all of you who don’t know about it (sure I write this with permission from Ms.Weirdie, the primary actress in this story).
A year ago, Ms.Weirdie, Ms.DulGembul, Mrs.Nilnil and I went to KL to attend a course. It’s unusual when our office sent four people at same time to attend the same course, especially, if the participants are in the same ages, “crazy”, “beautiful”, and smart persons.... (Narcissistic mode-on). So, no wonder if many people in our office were jealous with our luck hihihihi… and even our Deputy Director called us “The Circus Troupe” while he knew we would go to KL in a group… Hahaha….

Riska ==> Winter at Korea ==> Another Baby would it be?
It started when I was chatting with our Moderator, Mr. C via gtalk. well, he's a frequent flyer actually, moving from one city to another city. Don't forget the souvenir for us Pak!!!
Mr. C was asking bout other unreachable members, one of them is Ms. Riska. So I told him that Ms. Riska is in Korea now...yeahh spending winter in Korea...cool isn't it? (hmmm not cool..but colddddd...remember..it's winter)
Like Ms. Uthie, Let's then we pray for Ms. Riska, so she can safely back here...OOOppsss, forgot!!!and also her hubby, Mas Sidik, who accompany her...amiien...
Well, eventhough we know the main agenda of this trip is to attend a training, still I consider (sorry Cik Ris) this trip as second honeymoon for Ms. Riska and spouse. Pls imagine it, travel to new city, it's winter and very coldd, and you have hubby beside you....welllllllllllllllll...UHUKKKKKK...
the result is tadaaaaa....fifth baby for Riska...made in Korea baby...qiqiqiqiiq...Amiien ya Rabb Alamiiin..(I pray from my deepest heart Cik Ris).

SHOES ARE WOMEN'S BEST FRIEND
Well, yeahh..indeed, they are my weakness. I feel something's missing if I didn't stop by the shoes shop when I visited shopping mall. I remembered the answer for my friend's questions when they saw me buying another shoes. "Actually, how many shoes should woman have Nit?"
I said: "Need one more pair than we already have now" :D
Sooooo, last Saturday, I myself asked the question...when suddenly, in 30 minutes I bought three pairs at the Clark's Bazaar. Duoooohhhh...(my pleading was they're worthy enough).

TOEFL FEVER
Today, there are many weird fevers that infected human, some of them are the dangerous one. But, I found the fever that infected our directorate staffs results in a positive value for us. It started on July 2011 when I encouraged myself to take the test. Then it spread out and infected Ms. Laura, Ms. Riska, and Ms. Pingki (well congratulations for your score jeng!). Finally, Ms. Linda “immune system” failed to fight the fever. Hehehe ...She’ll take TOEFL Test on Dec 18, let’s pray for her.
Last but not least, I hope this fever mutates and strong enough to infect Ms. Aul, Ms. Uthie, Andri, and others. Come on guys, encourage yourself and take the test.
P.S especially for Ms. Linda and Ms. Laura..still remember the phrase “strong enough” accident? Wuakakkakaka
Congratulations, Miumiu
This morning at Ijtima Sanawi (Annual Meeting) of National Sharia Board.
I was on the stage this morning, moderating discussion about fatwa on Islamic commodity transaction with people from JFX as presenters. I herd a beep in my blackberry and can't hold on myself to click it on. An email came from Ms. Rulida telling us about the TOEFL score of our sista ,Ms. Pingki "Miumiu" Rita which is 90. It means that our expensive lady (hi..hi..hi...) passes requirement from DSDM to apply proposal for study abroad. Alhamdulillah.....
We are very happy with the achievement.

We are very happy with the achievement.
But remember, it is just the first step. We still have long-long way to go. Many requirements should be fulfilled. We wish we could help you in every step, but it is only English we can provide.
Anyone who will face the challenge? Ms. Lind4?
Eh....how's if we have coffee break celebration for this success?
How's if Friday after Juma?
Merhaba! :D

Hello dear friends! I'm happily to announce that I [FINALLY!] have the access to the internet, though they banned some of the web pages (blogger, GMail, Yahoo!mail etc. Can you believe that? yep. Neither do I *face palm*), well. at least I can write this down to you to share a bit of the first two-days experience. Shall we start, yes? :D

Beautiful At Its Time...

“I asked for a fresh flower, Allah gives me a prickly cactus. Then I prayed for another beautiful little flower, He sends me a hairy caterpillar. I am sad, angry and disappointed. How unfair….!!! However then, a very pretty flower arose on the cactus, and moreover, the caterpillar grew and turned into a beautiful butterfly. It made me realized about Allah’s way. He let something beautiful in its time. Allah does not give us what we expect, but He gives us what we need. Sometimes we are sad, disappointed, and feel hurted. But indeed, above all, He is knitting the best for us”
Stories are gift, let's share!!! (Writing Practice - pq)

Stories are gift, let’s SHARE!!! Writing is becoming my daily activity recently. I push myself to do it actually (:P) in order to get used to write in English and share my story, my thought as well. This very short passage is written to encourage me of course, and you too my dear friends, to write. And I found that line (see above), the one that I use as this passage’s title, when I’m on my way to Bandung.
Writing is Easy
I was in the middle of Ijtima Sanawi (Annual Meeting) DSN when one of our member contacted me, telling her surprise that many members in this club can write an article. But she said hopelessly that she can't do that because she is very busy. At the end she said, she actually does not have any idea to write. (oh my God....)
For the first statement, I answered that there is nothing we can do, except utilizing rest time. I gave her advice to use every means at every moment. Most of us must have a mobile phone and every mobile phone must have word processor (in blackberry it is called memopad, in I-pad called Notes). You can write briefly what you have in mind -as a draft for your article-in your mobile phone, without waiting to be at home or office and put it in your laptop or computer. Trust me, you will lost the idea before you get there (in my son 's word gareeeeeeeeng...). If handpone cannot be used, we can use a peace of paper to write the concept. Just an idea or concept. If you feel you are so busy, find your leasure time, or when you are on your trip to working place, or when you are accompanying your children playing in playground. If you feel your husband curious about what you are doing (or even jealous with your mobile phone...hiks) tell him frankly that you are writing an article and will ask his comment. By involving him in the discussion, trust me, he will help you. (trainer mode-on....ting!)

Friendship
Guys, what is the first word will come up when you heard the word “friendship”? Your answer must be different, but the first word on my mind is “reliability”. To be a good friend, in my opinion, we have to be reliable, at any condition, even more at the bad times. Friend for mine is someone to whom I can count on.
Our Little Princess Prepared for Turkey
Today I saw all members' gtalk account turned green, which means everyone is there. Except Mr.Bapake Fira's who is still in Mataram. (Mr. Nchus is already back form there, but without gifts ....hiks).
But as Juma Prayer approached, I saw our Little Princess's gtalk account turn grey. It means she's already offline. Where did this lady go?
Ah, I just remember that she is about to travel to Turkey, a country whose people never speak any language except their own. (Remember when Mr. Nchus told us the story that he was very eager to practice his English, but nobody speaks with him in English.....poor Mr. Nchus hehehehe)
It seems that Ms. Utie is preparing well for her trip. What we can do now is just praying her safety and return to us with many gifts. yeaaaaaa................

Nick Name
Many people get puzzled when I call someone's name differently. It is because the nick name is not usual in the sense that, it is not according to what many people call the name in their daily life. The was a secretary to Mr. Mulya to whom I call Ningsih while other people call her Ami. Not a few people are also surprised when I call Pohan to Aulia Fitria, one of our bank supervisors. It is I who am the first to name Mr. Harisman, our former director, as Tuan Guru. He refused when we call him kiai or buya a title suggesting a respect for senior people who has certain level knowledge or piety.

Anyway, since she is our member, then even she is an "ordinary woman" by name, we hope she is Un-ordinary Woman, in the sense that, she is the one who always tries to develop herself, day by day, to be better person in between our hectic life. Amiin

Our Prayer for Little Princess recovery
This afternoon I went to Mr. Soekro's room, to give photographs which were taken when we were teaching officers of Bank of Uganda in Kampala, last July. I saw our Little Princess's desk was empty and thought that she might be in other room for a meeting. But brother Ariek told me that she should take rest due to decrease in her health condition. Actually yesterday I already noticed this condition, since she used a mask covering her nose and mouth, all the day. And even when we talked, to each other, we should do it in whispering (*bisik2, kayak ngegossip getooo...)
So please, I hope you all pray for Utie's recovery, whatever kind of sick she had. May Allah heal her and bring her condition into normal, as usual.
Allaahumma antas shaafii, laa shifaa'a illaa shifaa'uka
Ishfi maradinaa shifaa'an laa yughaadiru hatman walaa saqamaa
(O Allah, You are the Greatest Healer,
No recovery except from You
Please recover our ill
The recovery that will cause no sin and no suffering)
Amiin

HardWork is necessary, but motivation is the prime one
Our big Princess (ms. Lrd) wrote this article last year:
One of my friends told me to write my stories or opinions In English, on my blog . She said that it would help me to improve my confidence in using English every time, everywhere. Actually I had the same idea before but I am too shy to publish it on my blog (even actually I never published my blog too :P). This because I know that I still have a huge problem with the grammar. So, don't laugh at me if you find some mistakes here. Just tell me what's wrong, and I will correct it immediately.

Morning Irony
This article is a result of my writing practice during lunch time. I apologize if there are some grammatical mistakes or irrelevance in the meaning.
This morning I came to office at 6.00 a.m as usual. But today is special because I want to have a jog around Monas, the national monument. It's been around 6 months I have never run there for exercise. I used to do it in every evening about 3 years ago and it was very nice, before I was stuck into hectic works.
It is very nice to have fresh air in the morning, among the very big open space such as in Monas. The air waves through greenage providing cool ambience for those who walk around. When came to the area which is the center of monument there was already stage for people to assemble. I was told by the officer that there will be a ceremony to commemorate the birth of Indonesian Employee Association (Korpri). (....still exists?)

Suggestions for Our Blog

Assalamu’alaykum,
Dear Members,
Pardon for this mail Mr. Moderator, but I have some suggestions and advises for “Our Blog”.
First of all, we should consider the main purpose of this blog, which in my humble opinion, is to encourage the members to improve their writing skills.
And as far as I know, not all members have the experience in blogging world :)
For that reason, I’d like to give some suggestions, if you (all) don’t mind:

Sundanese English?
This morning I went to office as usual. Alas, today is Monday and everyone goes to office earlier than in other days.
I was stuck in traffic jam along city highway and started to get bored. When I was passing below a pedestrian bridge in Pancoran, I saw a banner published by ITB Alumni Association, written with nice mixture of English and local expressions. So I took picture with my phone-camera and sent it to you. It reads Together Mah, Stronger Euy
*halah....(slapping head)

Then.. When on their retirement days, I am the one who left home.. My job asked me to.. Till now.. OMG..

Never lost confidence
It's maghrib time already @ office. But I still feel homy, and do not want to go home. I do not know why...
It is too early for "night walker' like me to be @ home, I guess (big grin...)
And then just a glimpse of news remind me something.
Ms. Pingki will have IBT TOEFL test tomorrow.
Ms. Nita also will have interview on Monday.
So I bow my head and fall into praying, keeping my fingers crossing...ups
Keeping my hand palms up (the way muslims do their pray)
May our colleagues be successful in test and interview, repectively...
Amiin Ya Rabb
C'mon friends. Never loss your confidence. Be yourself. And never be ashamed of doing mistakes. Other buddies in this blog will help you, I'm sure. Keep speaking and writing....you'll get your fluency in English soon.
Thanks Princess for reminding me about Ms. Nita's interview.
Worth of a cup S'buck coffee...?
Ehm...

Happy Week End, Not for PRD
It's approaching 5 p.m, Firday evening. Tomorrow is Saturday, and of course a holiday for us.
But I don't think so for Ms. Pingki. You know why?
Because she will have TOEFL test!!!
Please keep your hand palms up, and pray for her success.
Amiin.

Pilot

for those who love watching TV-drama series, you must be familiar with their first episodes which always come with the title "PILOT"
so here comes the short plus not-so-funny equals to boring lines of mine for my PILOT episode :D
You know what comes to mind when your colleagues talk to you in English? at first, I was somewhat (over)worried, unconfident, can't stop thinking "am I saying the right words and grammatically correct?" "do I sound awkward?" "do others feel disturbed?" "do others think that we might just show-off?" "do we make others feel uncomfortable?" et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. At the same time, I also want to improve my ability to speak in English, especially when it comes to formal situations when usually I will get too nervous and all of a sudden I can hear myself talking like an E.T from outer space :P
